1. Are you insured? Can you supply me with proof of liability?       My   Answers > >

All responsible business owners carry liability insurance to protect their businesses and the consumer. Many locations are beginning to require proof of liability. Ask for proof of liability insurance. Disc Jockey's receive a Certificate of Liability which can be used as proof.

2. Will you be willing to play requests and discuss music ahead of time?

A versatile Disc Jockey is willing to listen to your suggestions, give you feedback and play from your desired song list. A professional Disc Jockey will also accept the fact you may not want certain songs played. A professional Disc Jockey cannot know everything about your musical preferences and entertainment needs without communication.

3. Do you use Professional Equipment?

Ask whether your prospective Disc Jockey works with professional audio equipment. If you are not sure, ask for their equipment list and check with a local music dealer or the A.D.J.A. to verify they are using professional-grade sound gear. Remember that professional gear does not guarantee an entertainer's talent or service level, but is simply a tool for building an exceptional event.

4. Do you provide backup equipment at my event?

Although equipment failure is rare, do you really want your special occasion ruined because your Disc Jockey did not come prepared? It is also important to know if your Disc Jockey has a back-up plan in case of illness or an accident. Members of the A.D.J.A. have many resources available to them in case of an emergency.
Booking a reliable Disc Jockey is a very important decision for the success of your party. Selecting a Disc Jockey who is an active member of the American Disc Jockey Association will provide you with the confidence that you have selected a trained professional. A.D.J.A. members are more likely to be involved with other Disc Jockey's who can help them out with an unexpected situation.

5. Does the Disc Jockey know the proper etiquette for your type of party?

A professional Disc Jockey will assist you with the planning of your special day. Most professional entertainers will coordinate, emcee and provide the music that you desire. Ask if they have experience with your type of event.

6. How much time do you allow for set-up?

Punctuality is a necessity. Most Deejay's arrive at least one hour prior to the start time you've given them. Your entertainer should ideally be setup and in-place before your first guest walks through the door.

7. Do you provide a written contract?

It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing. Ask for a written agreement, especially if you are paying an initial retainer. The standard initial payment for entertainment services is 50%. If you are expecting a specific entertainer, make sure you get it in writing as well.

8. Will you be suitably dressed for our occasion?

Specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey is expected to wear for your occasion. Formal attire or coat & tie are the most popular forms of attire. If you are having a "themed" event, make sure your entertainer is informed.

9. Do you belong to a professional organization or trade group?

Although belonging to an organization or trade group does not guarantee the talent or professionalism of a disc jockey, it may indicate the companies willingness to network, learn and grow. Disc jockeys can learn through local chapter meetings, national DJ conventions and seminars geared toward the entertainment professional.

10. If you are a computer Disc Jockey, do you carry a backup music source?

This is a big one. How many DJ's would carry
a second computer?

Other Items to Note

Disc Jockey rates vary based on talent, experience, emcee ability, service, coordination, equipment needed, music knowledge, mixing ability and personality.

A full-service disc jockey company will normally invest 12 to 25 hours to your special event but it may appear that you are only paying for "4 hours". Consultations, music purchasing & editing, preparation, set-up and tear-down, education and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasion.

Certainly!

It is best to give me a direction like:
"We like 80'S rock"
OR
"The whole crowd is country"
OR
"The theme is 1950's"
and a list of 10 to 15 songs you want to hear.
I take your request,  your guests request, my picks and mix it all together.

Yes!

Two Carvin 2000 watt amps drive the system
The most I ask from them is about 150 Watts so they run cool and unstressed. The speakers are James B. Lansing TR-225 columns (JBL's) Rated at 450 Watts (again unstressed) For bass I use  Carvin SW-1802 rated at 1600 watts. They have two or four 18 inch subwoofers depending on the system you choose.  Note this is not Two speakers sitting atop poles. This is a sound stage .  What live bands use. Why? It sounds great that's why. No, not loud. Good sound does not have to be loud. But it is hard to carry around. Ouch!

Yes the entire sound system is X 2 in my trailer.  I do carry bulbs for the lighting but I do not carry back ups for the individual lights. Loosing one light, even two lights would not have an impact on the evening.

With lighting, music, sound system and trailer I have over $35,000 invested . . .

OOps! your looking for a $200 DJ . . . . .

In 20 years I have only once pulled "back up!"
The story . . . .
The venue's breakers kept tripping and finally took an amplifier (We must have electric!) Old clubs and old firehalls are marginal at best. Especially if you want a large lighting display. I usually can work around it. That is the main reason I stop in and check out your venue. I do not like surprises. Nether do you!
When AEROSMITH is singing "I don't want to miss a thing" . . . .   I don't . . . . . .

I would be extremely embarrassed.
{Ok Lin I changed it LOL}
<< Back over here . . .

I offer a complete planning service.
A four page reception planner
That way I will not miss a detail.
I absolutely will not advertise at your reception! I believe this is one of the tackiest, most unprofessional, moves a DJ can make. Use your beautiful, expensive, and, very personal wedding reception to put up a banner advertising his service. Gorgeous flowers fabulous table setting and a big blue and gold banner reading "DJ Rasamataz 222-555-1212 for muzac"  YUCK!  Or, shout out on the Microphone," Ladies and Gentlemen you can catch me at the R&B lounge this comming weekend and I will be downtown at Willies every night the following week. Look me up and we'll dance the night away!"  Be sure to spell it out in the contract, no avertisement! No cards, no signs, no brochures. This is your show not theirs. Tell them to save it for the bar or club. If someone wants a business card they can ask.

If it is a simple engagement about an hour

If it requires lighting and low mist etc.
it could take up to 4 hours to set up

I will have background music on 30 min's. before anyone arrives.

I won't leave home without it!

Unless you specify otherwise I am in a Tux.

I am only keeping membership in one of these from here on neither really does much for me as a DJ.  Just have to decide??

Yes!

AND, it would have been loaded with all
the extra music you requested from my primary machine the day before. I also have a spare mouse keyboard and monitor.

Two computers/keyboards/mouse/monitors others bring their old disc machines as backups.

I do too! . . . as the third layer of backup!

If your still reading this far, on this page, your serious ! ! !

The Mobile DJ industry is a business, it provides an "intangible" service.
We are selling a "feeling" manufactured through a performance.
You, want your guests to feel good and have a great time.
That's what you're buying......really.
How successful the event becomes will depend on the performer's skills,
tools, and the options you choose for your event.
You must decide how important entertainment is for your party.
That's why you are looking at me.  I do understand my part. Refer to line #3
The best part of what I do is, wrap myself around your party. My business is creating
for you the party atmosphere you desire. I offer direction for you, to create
the effects you are seeking. This is pretty blunt, I know, but it is true.

More truisms:

There is no stable of DJ's here no DJ Lynx or DJ Raze Dazzle

I am the one you talk to on the phone, get email from, and I will be the
DJ at your event. In short I am the one responsible. No secretary will try to
hook you up with an employee DJ, I am the employee. No second and third
parties to pass information to and from inside the business. I am the business.

When I accept a booking it will be because I wish to work your event,
not because I was assigned to it.

Gary - I wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you did for my daughters wedding reception. It's been four days and everyone is still talking about it and probably will be for some time. If I or anyone I know of is in need of a DJ, you will be highly recommended. This one must have been a little nerve racking what with everyone being divorced and remarried, but I think the evening went great. Again, I would like to thank you for making my daughters special day, a day to remember. Thank You, B. Lloyd---P.S. - But you still owe me an Aerosmith tune!!!!!!
Gary, You made this party. Thank you so much.

Gary you did a wonderful job. You exceeded our wildest expectations! Thanks again!!!!!!!! TJ & Cassie
Gary was extremely well prepared for our wedding. He has a very extensive list of music, and can liven up any party! People are still telling me (2 years later) that our wedding was the most fun they'd ever had at a wedding. I owe that totally to Gary. He brought fun props to entertain the little and not-so-little kids. We had a no-swearing policy that he adhered to no matter what people requested. He was very professional, VERY good at what he does, and he knows how to have a good time. 90% of the people at my wedding were dancing most of the night. I can't say enough good things about Gary.......... Kristen E.          Linked from Here

Theme Receptions

If you are planning a theme reception Please, Please, PLEASE get your DJ involved. It will be one of the most necessary items for you to address.  Do this to be sure they have the proper music, lighting , props and so they do a little research to carry your theme. If your DJ is on board with your theme everything will be right.
